Six Reasons to Quitting Smoking Habit
Nobody who starts smoking right now can claim that he or she is not aware of the health effects of smoking. It can start a leisure activity, but over time, it becomes additive such that you cannot do without it and you become vulnerable to chronic diseases such as cancer, heart diseases, and stroke. After smoking for a significant period, the effects will start to manifest on your body, and some of them may include; shortness of breath and dry skin.
Unfortunately, many smokers are not willing to quit the habit despite being aware of the health risks associated with smoking. Everyone knows the health effects of smoking, but a majority of people have not found a reason to stop the smoking habit and below are some of them.
Reduce your expenses – You spend a lot of money in purchasing cigarettes each day. The government is trying to discourage smoking by imposing high taxes which translate to high prices of cigarette packets. You will end up broke after purchasing several packets of cigarette, and you will not have money to spend on other essential needs. The money that you spend on purchasing cigarettes can be useful elsewhere in improving your living standard and not endangering your life.
Stop jeopardizing other people’s lives – The smoke from your cigar spread to other people around you. People around you are likely to inhale the smoke which contains numerous toxic chemicals such as carcinogens. Vaping is an alternative to safer smoking as it does not have toxic chemical compounds.
Normalize your senses – Most smokers do not have properly functioning senses of smell and taste. Smoking affects your senses of smell which is also directly related to your taste sensation and after a short while, you may lose both senses. Luckily, this can be reversed when you quit smoking and start using nicotine replacement therapy.
Avoid premature aging – Smoking changes one’s appearance and even a young might look old. Smoking affects the skin tissues thus it is easy to develop wrinkles, dry skin, and leathery skin. Most research has shown that smoking speeds the aging process thus one is likely to appear older than his age.
Stop getting coughs and colds – It is quite usual to have coughs and colds occasionally, but the frequency of having those increases if you smoke. Smokers easily get bacterial and viral infections because smoking weakens their immune system thus they become susceptible to colds and coughs. Within a short time after quitting smoking, your body regains its immunity strength and fights disease causing pathogens.
Enjoy more exercise – Keeping fit calls for sufficient energy level but if you smoke, you will run short of breath thus little energy. Smoking weakens the functioning of the lungs and heart which are vital organs for optimal body functioning. In extreme cases, smokers may not have adequate strength to climb a couple of stairs. You will gradually regain your strength after quitting the habit.
